The long way round to Sagada
Every pin holds a moment. Zoom out and see everywhere your story has taken you.
You have been there, so it has opened. Photos, words, the voice note โ all of it.
Somebody left it for you and you have not been yet. You get the title and nothing else.
Four memories at the same doorstep become one pin. Tap it and they fan out into a list.
Pick the spot, say the thing, and leave it there. The hard part was never the app.
Choose where your memory happened. Drop the pin exactly, or somewhere near enough โ you decide how close anybody has to get.
A photo, a note, a voice recording, a whole story. Whatever you would want to find again.
Open the map and relive it whenever you want โ or leave it sealed until somebody is standing right there.
We went back four more times anyway. It is still there, and so is this.
Eleven hours on a bus for forty minutes of light. Worth every one of them.
That is exactly why I remember it. Not every memory has to be an occasion.
Attach a moment to a real place on the map. Drop the pin where it happened and decide how close somebody has to get.
Save more than coordinates. The picture, the paragraph, the thing you would only say out loud once.
Capture how the moment sounded. The waveform is drawn for you; you just press record.
The default. A memory is yours until you say otherwise, and a hidden place sends no coordinates to anybody.
Leave one for somebody by name, or for whoever you are friends with. They have to go and get it.
Everything in the order you made it, so a place reads like an album rather than a folder of files.
Walk past somewhere you left something and it is right there, waiting. That is the whole feeling.
Zoom out and see your life spread across a map. Filter by what is open, what is sealed, what is still a draft.
The big days, yes. And the doorway, the burger place, the walk you took every single day and never once photographed.
That 2AM burger place ๐ Open when nothing else was.
Four of you went. Four of you remember different bits of it. Leave them all at the same place and it becomes one thing again.
Sagada, February Four people, one weekend, eleven memories
No feed, no likes, no strangers. A shared memory goes to the people it was shared with and nowhere else โ and any one of you can still keep something just for yourself.
The sunrise from the ridge, before anybody else was awake.
3 photosโListen to how quiet it is. You can hear the whole valley.โ
A voice note ยท 0:41We ate instant noodles on a cliff edge and it was the best meal of the year.
A notePinned the exact spot so we can stand in it again.
A place ยท KiltepanSet per memory, changeable any time, and private by default. You never have to opt out of anything, because nothing is shared until you say so.
Where every memory starts. Nobody else can see it, find it on a map, or learn that it exists โ and if you mark the place hidden, the app sends no coordinates, no place name and not even the size of the circle to anybody but you.
People you have both agreed to. Becoming somebody's friend never opens their history โ only the memories they have marked for friends, and only for as long as you are friends.
Addressed to a person, or reachable with a link you can revoke in a tap. There is one link per memory, so there is never a forgotten second door.
Your location is read when you ask the app to check a memory, never in the background. There is no continuous tracking anywhere in it.
When a memory opens we record that it did and how far off you were. No coordinates are stored, so there is no log of where you have stood.
There is no directory and no lookup by name or email. Friends swap an eight character code, out loud, and you can change yours whenever you like.
โThis is basically Google Maps but for my feelings.โ
โI opened the app near my old university and completely forgot I saved something there ๐ญโ
โMy girlfriend and I started saving all the places from our trips. The map is a whole relationship now.โ
โLeft one at my nan's front door for her birthday. She had to walk out to get it. She cried. I cried.โ
โThe voice note thing ruined me. I forgot what my flat sounded like at 2am.โ
โNo feed, no likes, no strangers. Genuinely why I kept it on my phone.โ
Yes, and the app is not the thing deciding. Your phone sends its position and our server works out whether it is close enough, so nothing on the device can talk it open. A memory locked to a place stays shut until somebody is standing in the circle you drew.
That is the default. A memory is private until you choose otherwise, and you can pick who finds it per memory โ only you, your friends, or the specific people you send it to.
No. Your location is read when you ask the app to check a memory, never in the background, and an unlock is recorded as a distance rather than a coordinate. There is no log of where you have been.
Set the place to hidden and the app sends no coordinates, no place name and not even the size of the circle to anybody but you. A radius on its own narrows a place down, so it is withheld too.
Yes โ a time capsule, up to a hundred years out, judged against our clock rather than the phone's. You can use both at once: be in the right place, and not a day early.
Placing memories is free, and opening one somebody left you is free forever โ including for people who do not have an account. A subscription lifts the limits for people placing a lot of them.
We are letting people in a handful at a time. Leave your address and we will tell you the moment there is something to download.
Free to place a memory. Free forever to open one somebody left you. The travelling is on you.
